BSIL Lecture Series -04: From Sovereign Equality to Selective Legality: The US Operation in Venezuela and Small-State Vulnerabilities

BSIL Lecture Series – 04

The Bangladesh Society of International Law (BSIL) is pleased to organize a timely lecture – From Sovereign Equality to Selective Legality: The US Operation in Venezuela and Small-State Vulnerabilities by Professor Nehal Bhuta, Chair of Public International Law, The University of Edinburgh, UK.

Amid shifting tides in global geopolitics, the fundamental principle of sovereign equality is increasingly challenged by unilateral military actions. In this context, this lecture will focus on the rise of "selective legality" in light of the international legal implications of the recent United States operation in Venezuela and highlight the unique vulnerabilities faced by small States in the modern international legal order, as such precedents challenge the norms of the UN Charter.

📅Date: 24 March 2026 (Tuesday)

⏱️Time: 4:30 PM Bangladesh Time | 10:30 AM UK Time | 11:30 AM CET

👥Platform: Google Meet

Join us for this timely discussion on the evolving international legal order and its implications for global power dynamics and small-state sovereignty.
